Doug Lawrence

Douglas Lawrence Osowski, professionally known as Mr. Lawrence, was born on January 1, 1969, in East Brunswick, New Jersey. He pursued his education at The Kubert School for two years before focusing on a career in stand-up comedy. His entry into the animation industry began at Spümcø, where he worked as a layout assistant on “The Ren & Stimpy Show” from 1992 to 1993. This early experience provided a foundation for his subsequent work in the field. He transitioned to Games Animation and subsequently became a core member of the production team for “Rocko’s Modern Life.”

From 1993 to 1996, Lawrence played a significant role in “Rocko’s Modern Life” as a voice actor for the character Filburt and other additional voices. Concurrently, he contributed as a writer, storyboard artist, and director for multiple episodes of the series. This period marked a critical phase in his career, allowing him to develop skills across various aspects of animation production. Following “Rocko’s Modern Life,” Lawrence joined the team of “SpongeBob SquarePants” where his career expanded significantly. He began his long-standing role as the voice of Sheldon J. Plankton, Larry the Lobster, Fred, and numerous other recurring characters starting in 1999. In addition to his voice acting contributions, he has also served as a writer for the show since its inception, becoming a story editor for later seasons.

His involvement with the “SpongeBob SquarePants” franchise extends to movie adaptations, including “The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie” (2004), “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water” (2015), and “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run” (2020), where he reprised his role as Plankton. He further contributed to the franchise by writing the story and screenplay for “Plankton: The Movie,” released on Netflix in March 2025. Beyond SpongeBob, Lawrence has lent his voice to characters such as Edward T. Platypus in “Camp Lazlo” from 2005 to 2008 and Ian in “Deer Squad” from 2020 to 2022. His writing credits also include “The Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat” (1995-1997) and “Mighty Magiswords” (2016). His extensive career showcases a consistent engagement with various animated projects both as a performer and a creative force behind the scenes.
