The first British athlete to win four medals at a single Olympic Games, Duncan Scott MBE is a Scottish swimmer who competes for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games and Great Britain at the Olympic Games. Scott became the most decorated swimmer in Olympic history for Great Britain after becoming the first British athlete to win four medals at a single Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020.
An all-around swimmer in the pool, Scott has competed internationally in the 100 and 200 m freestyle and butterfly, as well as the 200 m individual medley. He has won golds in the 4 × 200-meter freestyle relay at the Olympics, two golds at the World Championships, a gold in the 4 x 100-meter medley relay, as well as silvers in the freestyle and medley relay at the World Championships and the Olympics. At the 2015 European Games and 2018 Commonwealth Games, Scott won the 100-meter freestyle event, and at the same European Games and the 2018 European Aquatics Championships, he won the 200-meter freestyle event.
Scott was the most successful British athlete at the 2015 European Games, winning three gold medals in the 100 m, 200 m, and 4 x 100 m freestyle relays. At the 2017 World Championships, he took home silver in the 4 x 100-meter medley relay. Scott is a well-regarded relay swimmer who set a new British record in the men’s 4 x 200 metre freestyle relay, before anchoring the 4 x 100 metre medley relay team that won gold at the 2019 World Championships.
