United States Lakatriona Brunson has transitioned from a prominent athlete and reality television personality to a respected educator and groundbreaking football coach.
Lakatriona Brunson starred as Bernice, a tow truck operator, in the truTV reality television series "South Beach Tow." The show portrayed dramatized reenactments of the day-to-day business of Tremont Towing. Brunson’s character, Bernice, became widely known for her strong personality and disposition.
Lakatriona Brunson competed as a defensive end for the Miami Fury football team, part of the Independent Women's Football League. This continued her career in athletics after college.
Lakatriona Brunson was named the head coach of the Miami Jackson High School football team in February 2016, making her the first female football coach in Florida. She was also a certified physical education teacher at the school and previously coached girls' flag football and served as an assistant coach for the girls' basketball team.

Lakatriona Brunson was born and raised in Miami, Florida. She attended Miami Northwestern Senior High School, where she participated in track and field and basketball. Brunson continued her athletic career at Tennessee State University, competing in track and field and playing as a power forward on the basketball team. She later played as a defensive end for the Miami Fury football team in the Independent Women’s Football League, demonstrating her continued involvement in competitive athletics.
Brunson gained public recognition for her role as Bernice on the truTV docudrama TV series “South Beach Tow” between 2012 and 2014, appearing in 42 episodes. Her character, Bernice, was known for her direct approach as a tow truck operator and often referred to herself in the third person. The show depicted reenactments of a towing operation based in South Florida.
Beyond her television work, Lakatriona Brunson is also a certified physical education teacher. In February 2016, she made history as the first female football coach in Florida when she was named head coach of the Miami Jackson High School football team. Prior to this, she coached girls’ flag football at Jackson High School and served as an assistant coach for the girls’ basketball team. She is also known for her role as Geraldine Redding (credited as KK Brunson) in the 2021 film “Gerri Curls” and is slated to appear as herself in “The Mecca: Legends of Traz Powell Stadium” in 2025. Brunson has remained a resident of Miami, Florida.
