Sports company PUMA signed the 800m World and Olympic Champion Emmanuel Korir. He will compete in the company's performance products, including PUMA's Evospeed Distance Elite +2 spikes for Diamond League meetings.

Emmanuel Kipkurui Korir was born on June 15, 1995, in Iten, Kenya. His athletic journey began with shorter sprints, but a pivotal moment in 2013 led him to focus on the 400 meters, guided by athletics coach Brother Colm O’Connell. This transition set the stage for his collegiate career in the United States. Following a 1:46.94 run in the 800m at the 2016 Kenyan Championships, Korir received a scholarship to the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), where he trained under former Olympic 800m champion Paul Ereng. During his collegiate tenure, Korir demonstrated exceptional talent, breaking an indoor world record in the 600 meters in January 2017 and achieving back-to-back national titles in the 800 meters at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships in 2017.
Korir’s career progressed quickly when he signed a professional running contract with Nike, Inc. in 2017. Despite not reaching the 800m finals at the World Athletics Championships in 2017 and 2019, he consistently performed at a high level, securing a silver medal in the 800m at the 2018 African Championships in Athletics. His consistency and dedication culminated in significant international victories. He became an Olympic champion at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, winning gold in the 800m with a time of 1:45.06. This was followed by a World Championship title in the same event at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, where he recorded a season’s best of 1:43.71, completing an Olympic-world double. Korir has also achieved considerable success in the Diamond League circuit, securing three titles in the 800m in 2018, 2021, and 2022.
