Young Australian actor Evan Evagora got his big break in 2019 when he was cast as Elnor in Star Trek: Picard, a fresh instalment in the iconic Star Trek franchise which aired on CBS All Access in early 2020. The show features Jean-Luc Picard, played as ever by Patrick Stewart, after his retirement. Evagora appeared alongside the legendary actor in seven of the show’s ten episodes, becoming the first Australian actor to ever play a main character in a Star Trek series.
Evagora was born in Melbourne in 1996 to a Cypriot father and New Zealander mother. He is one of seven siblings and grew up with twin interests in sport and acting. Although he starred in many school productions, he looked to be heading towards a sporting career, becoming a state boxing champion and playing professional Australian rules football in the Victorian Football League. However, after a gap year spent travelling around Europe, he switched his focus back to acting and enrolled at film school in Melbourne.
Whilst at film school, he was spotted by an acting and modelling agency, prompting a move to Sydney to pursue a professional career. He then crossed the Pacific to Los Angeles, winning the part of hand-to-hand combat expert Elnor in Picard. Around the same time, he also landed his first feature film role, playing Nick Taylor in Fantasy Island, a supernatural horror flick that was a box office hit, taking nearly $50 million worldwide. Such notable Hollywood roles so soon into his career show that Evan Evagora is going to be an actor to watch out for during the 2020s.
