Evan Turner, born on October 27, 1988, in Chicago, Illinois, overcame significant early childhood health challenges, including chickenpox, pneumonia, asthma, measles, and a car accident at age three. He attended St. Joseph High School in Westchester, Illinois, where he became one of the nation’s top high school basketball players. His collegiate career at Ohio State University was marked by exceptional achievements; in 2010, he was a first-team All-American, the National Player of the Year, a two-time scoring champion, and the Big Ten Conference Player of the Year. He holds the conference record for most Conference Player of the Week awards and was the first men’s basketball player to finish in the top two in scoring, rebounds, and assists in the same season.
Drafted second overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2010 NBA draft, Turner played point guard, shooting guard, and small forward during his professional career. He played for the Philadelphia 76ers (2010–2014), Indiana Pacers (2014), Boston Celtics (2014–2016), Portland Trail Blazers (2016–2019), and Atlanta Hawks (2019–2020), participating in the Rising Stars Challenge and helping his teams reach the NBA playoffs multiple times. After retiring as a player in 2020, Turner served as an assistant coach for the Boston Celtics during the 2020–2021 season.
Beyond his playing and coaching career, Turner has ventured into media and business. He co-founded New Amendment, a media company, and co-hosts the successful podcast “Point Forward” with Andre Iguodala, which recently partnered with Vox Media. He also launched the “Beyond the Big Ten” video and podcast series.
