United States Gabrielle Carteris has established a career spanning acting, producing, and influential leadership within the entertainment industry's trade unions.
Founding ambassador for ReFrame, an initiative by Women In Film and Sundance Institute aimed at furthering gender parity in the media industry. Through this role, Carteris contributes to ensuring a safer and more equitable entertainment and media industry.
Served as a vice president on the International Federation of Actors (FIA) executive council.
Served as a Vice President on the AFL-CIO's executive council.
Served as the second National President of SAG-AFTRA from April 2016 to October 2021, and previously as Executive Vice President from 2012-2016. She chaired the National TV/Theatrical Contracts Negotiating Committee and led the President's Task Force on Education, Outreach and Engagement. Under her leadership, the union implemented campaigns focusing on advertisement agencies, video game companies, and streaming services, and she spearheaded anti-harassment efforts and the stunt equity initiative. She also introduced the new SAG-AFTRA Member App.

Gabrielle Carteris was born on January 2, 1961, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Her early life included a move to San Francisco, California, where her mother established a children’s clothing store. Carteris attended Redwood High School in Larkspur, California, and later graduated from Sarah Lawrence College. Her acting career began with appearances in various television shows, frequently cast in roles portraying teenagers. In 1990, she secured her most recognized role as Andrea Zuckerman in “Beverly Hills, 90210,” a role she would maintain as a main cast member for five seasons and return to for guest appearances. During her time on the show, in 1993, her production company, GABCO Productions, signed a deal with Rysher TPE. Following her departure from “Beverly Hills, 90210” in 1995, Carteris hosted her own talk show, “Gabrielle,” which aired for one season.
Her career continued with diverse work as an actor and voiceover artist across television, film, and video games. She has appeared in numerous television films, with her first being “Seduced and Betrayed” in 1995. Carteris has also had guest roles in various network television series such as “Touched by an Angel,” “King of the Hill,” “NYPD Blue,” “JAG,” “Criminal Minds,” and “NCIS.” In 2019, Carteris reprised her role as Andrea Zuckerman while also portraying a fictionalized version of herself in the Fox reboot “BH90210,” where she also served as a co-producer.
Beyond her acting work, Carteris has taken on significant leadership roles within the entertainment industry. In 2012, she was elected executive vice president of SAG-AFTRA, a trade union representing over 100,000 actors and professionals. Following the death of the previous president, Ken Howard, in 2016, Carteris became the acting president and was subsequently elected president, serving successive terms until 2021. During her tenure, she also held positions as a vice president on the AFL-CIO’s executive council and on the International Federation of Actors’ executive council. She has been a vocal advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion, leading anti-harassment efforts and spearheading initiatives like the stunt equity program. She is also a founding ambassador of ReFrame, an initiative from Women In Film and the Sundance Institute, aimed at achieving gender parity in the media industry.
