Garrett Hedlund

Garrett John Hedlund, born on September 3, 1984, in Roseau, Minnesota, spent his formative years on a secluded beef cattle farm. His heritage includes Swedish, German, and Norwegian ancestry. During his ninth-grade year, he relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona, with his mother, where he began private acting lessons. Upon graduating from Horizon High School, Hedlund moved to Los Angeles, California, to pursue an acting career. Within a month, he secured a significant role as Patroclus, Achilles’ cousin, in the 2004 feature film “Troy,” starring Brad Pitt. That same year, he appeared in “Friday Night Lights” alongside Billy Bob Thornton, playing a high-school football player. In 2005, he starred as one of four brothers in “Four Brothers,” with Mark Wahlberg.

Hedlund’s career progressed with roles in various genres. In 2006, he co-starred in the fantasy adventure film “Eragon” as Murtagh Morzansson, a role he also voiced for the video game adaptation. He then appeared in the drama “Georgia Rule” (2007) and played the antagonist Billy Darley in the crime thriller “Death Sentence” (2007) with Kevin Bacon. A pivotal moment came in 2010 when he took on the lead role of Sam Flynn in “Tron: Legacy,” the sequel to the cult classic “Tron.” This role required extensive physical training and stunts. In 2011, Hedlund was recognized as “Man of the Year” at the Glamour Awards. He co-starred in the adventure drama “On the Road” (2012) as Dean Moriarty, a performance praised by critics for its depth. He also became an advertising and catwalk model for Italian fashion firm Prada in 2012 and the face of Yves Saint Laurent Beauté’s “La Nuit de l’Homme” fragrance in 2013. Additional roles include “Inside Llewyn Davis” (2013), “Lullaby” (2014) where he also performed a musical theme, Angelina Jolie’s historical drama “Unbroken” (2014), and playing James Hook in “Pan” (2015). More recently, he has appeared in “Mudbound” (2017), the HBO series “Mosaic” (2017–2018), and the Netflix action film “Triple Frontier” (2019). He also portrayed Harry J. Anslinger in “The United States vs. Billie Holiday” (2021) and starred in the Paramount+ series “Tulsa King” (2022–present) as Mitch Keller, where he also performs music.
