Professional Track and Field athlete Tony McQuay specialises in the 400 metres and the 400 metres relay. He is a 2 x Olympic medalist (Silver and Gold), a 2 x World Championship Gold medalist, and a 3 x World Relay Championship Gold medalist.
Born and raised in West Palm Beach, Florida, McQuay was interested in athletics from a young age. He ran the 100, 200 and 400 metres at High School, where he won the FHSAA State championship in the 400 metres as a senior. He was also a bit of a star at American football, being recognised as the school team’s most outstanding wide receiver, most improved defensive back, and best all-around player. He continued to pursue a career in track and field while at the University of Florida, winning many competitions at 400 metres. His professional career took off when he qualified to represent the United States at the 2012 London Olympics in the 400 metres, and the 400 metres relay, for which he won a Silver medal. His success continued with more medal victories, picking up a Silver for the 400 metres and a Gold for the 400 metres relay at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow. In 2014 he helped his team to a Gold at the World Relay Championships in Nassau, repeating the feat the following year. He also picked up another Gold at the World Championships in Beijing, again in the 400 metre relay. He was part of the US team for the 2016 Rio Olympics and this time the relay team won Gold. He picked up his third World Relay Championships Gold in 2017 at Nassau, and a Silver at the World Championships in London.
