His early career saw him serve as the radio announcer for the New York Mets from 1985 to 1988 and as the acclaimed play-by-play voice for the New Jersey Devils from 1987 to 1993. Demonstrating a unique dual path, Thorne also pursued a legal career, graduating from the University of Maine School of Law in 1973 and Georgetown Law School in 1976.
