Gillian Jacobs

Gillian Jacobs was born on October 19, 1982, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her early life was marked by a keen interest in acting, leading her to attend acting classes at the Pittsburgh Playhouse on weekends from a young age. She honed her craft at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2004. Jacobs made her acting debut at 16, portraying Titania in the Pittsburgh Public Theater’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” This early experience in theater laid the foundation for a career that would span stage, film, and television.

Jacobs achieved widespread recognition for her role as Britta Perry in the NBC sitcom “Community,” which ran for six seasons from 2009 to 2015. This critically acclaimed role allowed her to showcase her comedic talent to a broad audience. Following “Community,” she took on the lead role of Mickey Dobbs in the Netflix romantic comedy series “Love,” which aired for three seasons between 2016 and 2018, further cementing her status as a prominent figure in streaming content. She directed the short documentary “The Queen of Code” (2015), focusing on computer scientist Grace Hopper, and later directed a segment for the feature film “The Seven Faces of Jane” (2022), where she also held an acting and writing credit.
