About

Raymond Michael Mancino, born on March 4, 1961, in Youngstown, Ohio, inherited his boxing nickname “Boom Boom” from his father, Lenny Mancini, who was also a professional boxer. Inspired by his father’s unfulfilled dream of a world title due to World War II injuries, Mancini began boxing at a young age with the goal of winning a world championship for his family. He quickly gained recognition for his aggressive, whirlwind punching style in the professional circuit. Mancini made his professional debut in 1979, securing a first-round knockout victory against Phil Bowen.

His career saw him defeat notable boxers, including former US champion Norman Goins in March 1981. Mancini captured his first major title, the WBC-affiliated NABF Lightweight championship, in May 1981 by defeating Jorge Morales. Following a successful defense of this title, he challenged Alexis Argüello for the WBC Lightweight title in October 1981. This bout, although a TKO loss for Mancini in the 14th round, was widely recognized as one of the most spectacular fights of the decade. Demonstrating resilience, Mancini won his next two fights, securing another world title shot. On May 8, 1982, at The Aladdin in Las Vegas, he triumphantly won the WBA Lightweight title by TKO in the first round against Arturo Frias, achieving his lifelong aspiration.

Following his boxing career, Mancini expanded his pursuits into acting and producing. He appeared in various films and television series, including “Who’s the Boss?” (1985-1986), “Timebomb” (1991), “Redbelt” (2008), “Bad Frank” (2017), and the upcoming “In the Sunset of the Condemned.” Mancini has also served as a producer on several projects such as “Suckerpunch,” “Operation Resurrection” (2013), “The Good Son: The Life of Ray Boom Boom Mancini” (2013), “Youngstown: Still Standing” (2010), and “6:45” (2021). Additionally, he has worked as a boxing commentator and is an advocate for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
