Born Gennaro D’Acampo on July 17, 1976, in Torre del Greco, Italy, Gino D’Acampo cultivated an early passion for food. At the age of 19 in 1995, he moved to London to further his culinary career, working in established restaurants such as The Orchard Restaurant in Hampstead and the Cambio Restaurant in Guildford, Surrey. This period provided him with practical experience and a foundational understanding of the restaurant industry. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-own Bontà Italia Ltd, a company focused on sourcing Italian ingredients, and he also gained experience in the development of ready meals, notably contributing to the Tesco Finest range.
D’Acampo’s transition into television began with a guest appearance on “Good Food Live” (2002), which subsequently paved the way for a consistent presence on screen. He became a regular chef on ITV’s “This Morning” starting in 2009, a role he maintained for many years, showcasing his Italian cooking to a broad audience. His television career expanded with various cookery programs, including presenting “There’s No Taste Like Home” (2011) and co-presenting “Let’s Do Lunch with Gino & Mel” (2011–2014) for four series and three Christmas specials. In 2013, he launched the popular travel and cooking series “Gino’s Italian Escape,” which aired for seven series, each accompanied by a cookbook.
Beyond cooking shows, D’Acampo has demonstrated his versatility as a television personality. In 2009, he won the ninth series of “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!”. He also served as a panellist and team captain on ITV2’s “Celebrity Juice” between 2014 and 2019, stepping in for Holly Willoughby and Fearne Cotton during their maternity leaves. In 2020, D’Acampo became the presenter of the revived British game show “Family Fortunes.” He has also frequently collaborated with chefs Gordon Ramsay and Fred Sirieix on the popular ITV food and travel series “Gordon, Gino and Fred’s Road Trip,” which ran for five series until 2023.
