Kaila Methven was born in Santa Monica, California. After the death of her mother, Lisa Methven, she moved to Paris to live with her father. Her formative years in Paris led to an internship at a fashion show at The Trocadero. She pursued formal education in design, training at ESMOD and earning a master’s degree from IFA Paris. Furthering her business acumen, she completed an MBA in Luxury Brand Management at Polimoda in Florence. This comprehensive European education provided Kaila with a strong foundation in haute couture and luxury brand development.
Upon returning to Los Angeles in 2014, Kaila Methven channeled her skills into establishing her own luxury lingerie brands, Madame Methven and Lactrodectus (LDKM). Her collections have debuted at significant events such as LA Fashion Week and Orange County Fashion Week, gaining attention from both the press and the public. Her designs have been featured in prominent publications including Maxim, US Weekly, Elle, and Harper’s Bazaar. Kaila has also created custom couture pieces for high-profile clients and major Hollywood events. Recognition for her work includes winning International Design Awards for both Prêt à porter and lingerie in 2016, as well as the Global Designer of The Year Award in 2018. She was also recognized as the Most Dynamic Woman of the year by Angeleno Magazine. Celebrities such as Demi Lovato, Katharine McPhee, and cast members of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills have worn her designs.
Kaila’s family history is rooted in the chicken industry, with her maternal grandfather, Stanley Methven, founding Rainbow Chicken Unlimited in 1960, which supplied a significant portion of KFC’s chicken. This background, while not directly tied to Colonel Sanders’ family, underscores a tradition of entrepreneurship that Kaila continues in the fashion realm. Beyond her design work, Kaila Methven has ventured into media, forming the production company After Dark Productions. Additionally, she is an advocate, supporting the LGBT community through her involvement with Plur Association.
