About

Grace Van Patten was born on November 21, 1996, in New York City, New York. She is the daughter of director and producer Timothy Van Patten and niece of comic actor Dick Van Patten. Her early life in Tribeca and attendance at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School, known for its performing arts focus, laid the foundation for her acting career. Her professional journey began at a young age, with her first on-screen role at eight years old in the crime drama television series “The Sopranos” (2006), directed by her father. She portrayed Ally, the daughter of a gangster, appearing in two episodes: “Members Only” and “Join the Club.” This early exposure provided her with practical experience in a professional production environment.

Van Patten’s career progression continued with a role in another series directed by her father, “Boardwalk Empire,” in 2014, where she played Ruth Lindsay in one episode. She decided to defer admission to the University of Southern California to pursue acting opportunities, taking community college classes in subjects like psychology and philosophy while auditioning in New York City. Her feature film debut was in the Netflix romantic comedy “Tramps” (2016), where she played Ellie, which premiered at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival. The following year, she starred in the horror thriller “Central Park” and had a notable role as Eliza in Noah Baumbach’s comedy-drama film “The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected)” (2017), which screened at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. In “The Meyerowitz Stories,” she portrayed a Bard College film student who creates sexually explicit shorts. Her work in this film contributed to her being named one of Variety magazine’s “10 Actors to Watch” in 2017.

Her career continued to gain momentum with diverse projects across film, television, and stage. She made her theater debut in The New Group’s Off-Broadway play “The Whirligig” in 2017. Other film credits include “The Wilde Wedding” (2017), David Robert Mitchell’s crime noir “Under the Silver Lake” (2018), “Good Posture” (2019), “The Violent Heart” (2020), and “Mayday” (2021). In television, she is recognized for her main roles as Zoe Marconi in the Hulu original series “Nine Perfect Strangers” (2021) and as Lucy Albright in “Tell Me Lies” (2022–present). She is also set to star as Amanda Knox in the upcoming miniseries “The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox” (2025).
