Chris Krebs

Chris Krebs is a recognized expert in cybersecurity and risk management, serving as the first Director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and later co-founding a cybersecurity consultancy. After being appointed as the first Director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) in November 2018, Chris Krebs led the critical efforts to defend civilian networks, secure federal facilities, and manage systemic risk to national critical functions. In this pivotal role, he collaborated extensively with stakeholders across government and industry to enhance the nation’s cyber and physical infrastructure security. Prior to his directorship, Krebs served as the Under Secretary for the National Protection and Programs Directorate (NPPD), confirmed on June 15, 2018, which was later reorganized into CISA.

He first rejoined the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in March 2017 as Senior Counselor to the Secretary, advising on critical infrastructure and national resilience, and was subsequently appointed Assistant Secretary for Infrastructure Protection in August 2017. His tenure at CISA concluded in November 2020. Before his significant leadership roles within the U.S. government, Krebs honed his expertise in the private sector.

Beyond his direct involvement in corporate cybersecurity, Krebs actively contributes to broader industry and policy discussions. In October 2022, he joined the Council for Responsible Social Media, a significant project initiated by Issue One, focused on addressing the multifaceted impacts of social media on society and security. As a recognized expert in cybersecurity and risk management, Krebs continues to be a sought-after voice on critical issues at the intersection of technology, national security, and public policy.
