Griffin Matthews

Griffin Matthews is an American actor, writer, and director, recognized for his work across television, film, and theatre. After co-writing the critically acclaimed musical Witness Uganda, later retitled Invisible Thread, with Matt Gould, which earned the prestigious Richard Rodgers Awards for Musical Theatre in both 2012 and 2014, Griffin Matthews established himself as a multifaceted talent in theatre. Matthews co-founded UgandaProject in 2005, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the education of orphaned children, with his experiences directly inspiring the creation of Invisible Thread. The musical garnered significant recognition, including its Off-Broadway run and critical acclaim for its innovative storytelling.

Expanding his creative footprint, Matthews has also moved into writing and directing, demonstrating his comprehensive theatrical expertise. He received a significant commission from Center Theatre Group for a new musical, The Family Project, highlighting his continued influence in musical theatre development. Matthews has also utilized his platform to speak publicly on critical issues, including institutionalized racism within the American theater. In film, he appeared as Professor Golden in the romantic comedy Your Place or Mine, released in 2023.
