About

Guido Palau was born in Dorset, England, and spent his teenage years in Bournemouth. After a modest school career, he trained as a hairdresser, initially with Vidal Sassoon in Bournemouth. An early challenge in his career occurred when he was dismissed from Vidal Sassoon after playfully filling an appointment sheet with fictional celebrity names. This event prompted him to pursue session hairstyling for photographic shoots and fashion shows more seriously, seeking to establish his career in the industry.

A significant turning point in Palau’s career was styling the hair for George Michael’s iconic “Freedom! ’90” music video, which featured supermodels such as Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Tatjana Patitz, and Cindy Crawford. In the early 1990s, as the supermodel era transitioned to grunge, Palau began collaborating with photographer David Sims. Their work, featuring street-cast subjects and anti-fashion hairstyles, appeared in “The Face” magazine and captured the attention of Calvin Klein. Klein subsequently enlisted Palau and Sims to work on his pivotal Fall 1994 fashion show, an endorsement that brought Palau international recognition and led to further high-profile collaborations, including a Versace campaign in 1996 with Richard Avedon.

Today, Palau is recognized as one of the world’s most in-demand hairstylists. He regularly works with photographer Steven Meisel and David Sims, with his work appearing in international editions of Vogue, Love, V, and W Magazine. He creates hair looks for over 30 fashion shows each season, driving many major trends for brands like Prada, Balenciaga, Marc Jacobs, Lanvin, Alexander Wang, Calvin Klein, Versace, Louis Vuitton, Yves Saint Laurent, Ralph Lauren, and Alexander McQueen. His career progression includes being signed as the creative consultant for Redken in 2005 and being named one of the British Fashion Council’s “25 Most Powerful People in the Fashion Industry” in 2009. He has also authored two books, “Heads: Hair by Guido” (2000) and “Hair: Guido” (2014), showcasing his extensive body of work.
