Hagir Elsheikh’s journey began in Sudan, where as a young girl, she engaged in political activism against the government of Omar al-Bashir. Her early resistance led to personal hardship, including arrest and torture, before she sought asylum in the United States. This formative experience instilled in her a commitment to human rights and advocacy. Upon arriving in the U.S., she pursued an education in nursing, first at Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) and later earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Grand Canyon University in 2012. Her academic achievements were later recognized with her induction into the GCU Alumni Hall of Fame in 2019 and her role on the HACC board of trustees.
Elsheikh transitioned her advocacy and entrepreneurial spirit into launching several organizations and ventures. She established HSE Staffing Agency LLC, a healthcare staffing firm. Her personal experience as a mother led her to found Kareem’s Mission, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting families navigating autism diagnoses. Further expanding her reach, she founded Tomorrow’s Smile Inc., a nonprofit focused on survivor support and public education, specifically addressing domestic violence and gender-based violence. She also launched KMission TV LLC and Hagir Network, media platforms featuring bilingual interviews and community-affairs programming like ‘The Hagir Show,’ carried by PhillyCAM.
Throughout her career, Elsheikh has been a speaker at universities and policy forums, addressing topics such as human rights, diaspora leadership, and civic participation. She has partnered with organizations like the United Nations and Amnesty International to combat human trafficking, gender-based violence, and other human rights violations. In 2025, Central Penn College awarded her an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree, acknowledging her contributions as a trailblazer, author, advocate, and global peacekeeper. This recognition, along with her inclusion in City & State Pennsylvania’s ’40 in Their 40s’ list and recognition in the U.S. Congressional Record, highlights her ongoing impact in humanitarian service and community advocacy.
