Sir Howard Davies is an acclaimed economist and public official, renowned for his leadership across prominent financial institutions and academic bodies. After being named the first Executive Chairman of the Financial Services Authority (FSA) in 1997, overseeing the single regulator for the UK’s financial services sector until 2003, Sir Howard Davies went on to build a monumental career across the UK’s financial and academic landscape. Davies was appointed Knight Bachelor in 2000 for his distinguished service. Prior to his leadership at the FSA, he served as Deputy Governor of the Bank of England from 1995 to 1997 and as Director General of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) from 1992 to 1995.
Beyond finance, his commitment to public service extends to the arts, having served as a Trustee of the Tate Gallery from 2002 to 2010, including a tenure as Chair from 2009 to 2010. He further showcased his cultural contributions by chairing the judges for the prestigious Booker Prize in 2007. A prolific author, Sir Howard Davies has published five books on financial markets and regularly contributes his insights to esteemed publications such as The Financial Times and Project Syndicate. He served as Chairman of the London Library from 2015 to 2023 and currently holds the position of Chairman of Inigo Insurance, which he began in 2021.
Looking ahead, he is slated to assume the role of President of the Cornhill Club in 2025.
