After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Studies from Queen’s University in 1992, he worked on the political staff for Perrin Beatty, serving in federal roles up to the 1993 government of Kim Campbell. He then shifted to provincial politics, representing Nepean in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1995 to 1999, and subsequently NepeanCarleton from 1999 to 2005.
His impactful service was recognized with the ‘Forty Under 40’ award from Ottawa Business Journal in 2008. He continued to take on critical portfolios, including Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities from 2008 to 2010, and Leader of the Government in the House of Commons from 2010 to 2011, during which he also served as Interim Minister of the Environment. Baird’s most prominent federal role was as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2011 to 2015, where he played a significant role in shaping Canada’s foreign policy and represented the nation on the international stage. After stepping down from federal politics in March 2015, he transitioned to the private sector, taking on senior advisory and board positions with various international firms.
