Ian Chen

Ian Chen was born on September 7, 2006, in Los Angeles, California. At the age of five, he began his career by booking his first national commercial, which led to steady work in commercials, print, and various television shows. In March 2014, he achieved a significant milestone by securing the role of Evan Huang in the ABC comedic series “Fresh Off the Boat,” a role he maintained from 2015 to 2020 across 116 episodes. During this period, he also made guest appearances on established shows such as “Grey’s Anatomy” in 2014 and “Dr. Ken” in 2016. Recognized early for his talent, Variety cited him as a young star to watch, and he was included in Entertainment Weekly’s list of “12 under 12” outstanding youth actors. The Hollywood Reporter also listed him among Hollywood’s Top 30 Stars Under Age 18 in both 2018 and 2019.

Chen expanded his career into feature films, making his debut in Warner Brothers’ “Shazam!” in 2019, where he played Eugene Choi. He reprised this role in “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” in 2023. Other film credits include “A Dog’s Journey” in 2019, where he played Young Trent, and voice roles in animated features such as “Wish Dragon” (2021) as Young Din and a recurring voice role in Disney Junior’s “Fancy Nancy” (2018-2022). He further contributed his voice talents to “Yasuke” (2021) and “Summer Camp Island” (2023).

Beyond acting, Chen is also a trained singer, having performed on the Hallmark Channel’s “Home & Family” for a television interview and live singing performance. He has since performed at various charity events. He plays piano and guitar, and has a keen interest in aviation, aspiring to be a pilot. Chen graduated from Arcadia High School in 2024 and is currently attending Harvard University. He and his younger brother, Max, are fluent in Mandarin.
