Ian Kelsey

Ian Kelsey was born on December 17, 1966, in York, England. Before embarking on his acting career, he began working as an apprentice coach builder at York railway carriage works. His initial foray into the performing arts was through the Joseph Rowntree Theatre in York, which led him to formal training at The Guildford School of Music and Theatre. Kelsey’s career saw him quickly establish a presence in British television, becoming a recognizable face in popular series. His early television roles laid the foundation for a career marked by diverse character portrayals in well-known productions.

Kelsey’s career progression demonstrates a consistent engagement with various acting mediums. He is best known for his roles in several long-running and acclaimed British television shows. From 1994 to 1996, he played Dave Glover in the ITV soap opera, Emmerdale, followed by a period from 1999 to 2002 as Patrick Spiller in the BBC medical drama, Casualty. He then took on the role of Matt Brewer in the BBC drama Down to Earth from 2003 to 2004. A significant turning point was his six-year portrayal of DI Richard Mayne in the crime drama Blue Murder, which spanned from 2003 to 2009. He later returned to mainstream soap opera by joining Doctors as Howard Bellamy from 2012 to 2015, and subsequently appeared in Coronation Street as Vinny Ashford from 2016 to 2017.
