Born on January 10, 1976, in Hitchin, England, Ian Poulter began playing golf at age four. He turned professional in 1995, and his early career saw him work as an assistant pro and golf shop manager at Chesfield Downs Golf Club before joining Leighton Buzzard golf course. In 1999, he secured his first professional win at the Open de Côte d’Ivoire on the Challenge Tour, subsequently gaining promotion to the European Tour. In his debut European Tour season in 2000, he won the Italian Open and was recognized as the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year. Further victories followed, including the Volvo Masters in 2004.
Poulter’s career highlights include two World Golf Championship wins: the 2010 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship and the 2012 WGC-HSBC Champions. He has also been a key member of numerous European Ryder Cup teams, contributing to five winning campaigns in 2004, 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2018. His distinctive style on the course and competitive spirit earned him recognition, with his world ranking reaching as high as number 5.
