Rachel Sennott is an up-and-coming American comedian and actor. She began performing stand-up whilst studying at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and has quickly gathered wider acclaim — Time Out New York heralded her as one of 2019’s Comedians to Watch, and she has been profiled by the distinguished likes of Forbes. With a pilot for ABC called My Village and a Comedy Central web series in development (co-scripted by fellow young comedian Ayo Edibiri), her future looks incredibly bright.
Even without the above plaudits and projects, Sennott’s acting resume is already accomplished. She had a guest role in HBO’s critically acclaimed drama series High Maintenance and starred in Shiva Baby, an indie short film that premiered at the world-famous SXSW festival and is now being turned into a full-length feature film. Her other short film appearances include Hostess, Stuck in the Mall, Tabitha in Love, and Wakey Wakey. Sennott has also built an enviable online following through the likes of Instagram on Twitter, with over 150,000 followers across both platforms. Her ever-growing profile is down to her regular posting of jokes on the latter, helping her to build an audience and define her style.
Another key factor in Sennott’s development was the male-dominated Manhattan open-mic comedy circuit. She cut her teeth performing at such events regularly before being booked to perform at It’s a Guy Thing, a monthly alternative comedy night with a younger crowd hosted by three women comics. The night soon became a regular booking for her, helping to lead to all that’s followed.
