India Ferrah

Shane Richardson, known as India Ferrah, was born in Roanoke, Virginia. His journey into drag began early, starting to wear dresses and makeup at age 12 and performing as India Ferrah by age 18. His drag name, given by his first drag mother Montana St. Clair, replaced an earlier choice that did not align with his vision of a diva and high-glam persona. Richardson also developed skills as a costume designer, a craft he began at age 14. He holds a significant presence in the drag pageant circuit, winning titles such as Miss Gay Roanoke in 2006 and the Heart of Ohio All American Goddess Pageant in 2008.

India Ferrah gained national recognition for participating in the third season of RuPaul’s Drag Race in 2011. As the youngest contestant at 23, she navigated the competition, making it to the fifth episode and placing tenth. During her time on the show, an incident during a lip sync involving fellow contestant Mimi Imfurst became a memorable moment, leading RuPaul to famously declare, “drag is not a contact sport.” Following her initial appearance, Ferrah took a hiatus from drag, later returning to redeem her image and career.

Her career progression continued with a return to the RuPaul’s Drag Race franchise, competing in the fifth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars in 2020. During this season, she secured a maxi-challenge win in the first episode. She has also performed regularly at the Piranha Nightclub in Las Vegas and has collaborated on projects like RuPaul’s Drag Race Live!, a variety show residency at Flamingo Las Vegas. India Ferrah continues to tour and host pride events, maintaining connections with her audience and contributing to the drag community.
