IronE Singleton

Robert “IronE” Singleton was born on November 30, 1975, in Atlanta, Georgia. Growing up in low-income housing projects, Singleton faced significant hardship, including losing his mother to HIV/AIDS during his senior year of high school and having a brother who spent much of his life in the prison system. Despite these challenges, he pursued higher education, attending the University of Georgia on academic and football scholarships. At the university, he majored in Theater and Speech Communications and played as a defensive back and later a running back for the Georgia Bulldogs. His early life experiences profoundly influenced his artistic and personal development.

Singleton’s career in entertainment began to gain momentum with his role as Alton in the Academy Award-nominated film “The Blind Side” (2009), the highest-grossing sports movie at the time. He then became widely recognized for his portrayal of Theodore ‘T-Dog’ Douglas in the Emmy, AFI, and WGA Award-winning television series “The Walking Dead” (2010–2012), a show known for its high viewership. His work on “The Walking Dead” spanned 20 episodes, solidifying his presence in popular culture. In 2011, he appeared alongside Nicolas Cage, Guy Pearce, and January Jones in the feature film “Seeking Justice” as the character Scar. He also appeared in “Lottery Ticket” (2010) with Bow Wow and Ice Cube.

Beyond acting, Singleton has engaged in other creative endeavors. He wrote, directed, and performed a one-man stage production titled “IronE . . . The Resurrected,” which explored his personal journey from poverty to recognition. This production led him to author his autobiography, “Blindsided by The Walking Dead.” As part of his commitment to giving back, he is developing the IronE School of The Arts (ISA), a non-profit performing arts school aimed at providing enriching programs for youth. Singleton is also a motivational speaker, using his life story to inspire others. His more recent work includes roles in “An Amish Murder” (2013), “Safety” (2020) as Coach Butch Hassey, and “The Underground Railroad” (2021) as Mack. He also lent his voice to the video game “The Walking Dead: Destinies” (2023) as T-Dog.
