Simon Desthieux is a French biathlete, Olympic champion and World champion who won his first World Championship medal in 2017 in Hochfilzen, as part of the men’s relay team that came second.
When Desthieux competed in the 2014 Winter Olympics for France, he finished 45th in the sprint and 21st in the pursuit. Four years later, his Olympic results were quite different and in the 2018 Winter Olympics he finished 12th in the sprint and 7th in the pursuit. As part of France’s mixed relay team, he nabbed a gold medal, reaching a milestone in his career with his first Olympic gold.
Desthieux has competed in six World Championships across the globe, showcasing his talent wherever he ventures. His noteworthy performances include the 2016 Oslo Holmenkollen, where he finished 12th in the sprint and 6th in the pursuit. In addition, in 2017 in Hochfilzen, he nabbed silver in the men’s relay team and finished 5th in the sprint at the 2019 Östersund. His best result however, occurred at the most recent World Championships: the 2020 Antholz-Anterselva. Here he landed an 8th place finish in the pursuit and secured his first World Championship title in the men’s relay.
At the Biathlon World Cup events, Desthieux has performed outstandingly in recent years, winning gold in the 2018/19 season in the sprint, and finishing 4th place in the pursuit. His proven track record of success and boundless determination can only mean one thing; he will be topping up his medal collection for many seasons to come.
