Italy Isabella Rossellini is an Italian-American actress and model recognized for her influential contributions to modeling and a diverse film and television career spanning decades.
Rossellini became the exclusive spokesmodel for the French cosmetics brand Lancôme in 1982. She was involved in product development for the fragrance Trésor in 1990. After being dismissed in 1996 for being 'too old', she was rehired in 2016 as a global brand ambassador.
Rossellini was the inaugural brand ambassador for the Italian Silversea Cruises company in 2004, appearing in print ads and on their website. Barbara Muckermann, senior vice-president of worldwide marketing and communications, stated that Rossellini perfectly embodied Silversea's standard of elegance, glamour, and sophistication.
At 40, Rossellini founded her own cosmetics brand, Manifesto, following a long career as a model.
The actress's relationship with Lancôme is one that has deep roots. In 1982, she signed an exclusive deal with the company, making her the first face of Lancôme. She continued this partnership, notably appearing in campaigns such as 'Lashes and Lips for Isabella Rossellini's Tonight Golden Globes' in 2025.
Isabella Rossellini was born in Rome, Italy, on June 18, 1952. She is the daughter of actress Ingrid Bergman and director Roberto Rossellini. She holds dual Italian and American citizenship. Rossellini moved to America in 1979 and initially worked as an American correspondent for the Italian television network RAI. Her acting career began with a brief appearance as a nun in her mother’s 1976 film, “A Matter of Time.” She later gained prominence in American cinema. Rossellini also began a modeling career around the age of 28.
Her career highlights include her breakthrough role as Dorothy Vallens in David Lynch’s 1986 film “Blue Velvet,” which earned her an Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead. She further expanded her filmography with roles in “Death Becomes Her” (1992), for which she won a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress, and “Fearless” (1993). In television, she received an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her appearance on “Chicago Hope” in 1997. She also appeared in the HBO film “Crime of the Century” (1996), earning a Golden Globe nomination.
Beyond acting and modeling, Rossellini has pursued interests in nature and conservation. She created and starred in the web series “Green Porno,” which humorously explores animal mating rituals, and has developed stage performances based on this theme. She is also involved in training guide dogs and serves on the board of the Wildlife Conservation Network. In 2024, she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Sister Agnes in “Conclave,” demonstrating her continued presence and critical acclaim in the industry.
