Francisco Román Alarcón Suárez, professionally known as Isco, was born on April 21, 1992, in Benalmádena, Málaga. He began his football journey in Valencia’s youth system, playing primarily for their reserve team from 2009 to 2011. During the 2009–10 season in Segunda División B, he scored one goal in 26 appearances. His senior debut for Valencia’s first team occurred on November 11, 2010, in the Copa del Rey, where he scored two goals in a 4–1 victory against Logroñés. He made three further league appearances and two in the UEFA Champions League, contributing to the B-team’s return to the third level with 15 goals in their campaign.
In July 2011, Isco transferred to Málaga CF, signing a five-year contract. He quickly established himself, scoring his first goal for the club on November 21, 2011, in a 3–1 win against Racing de Santander. His performances during the 2011–12 season, including 32 games and five goals, helped Málaga qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time. In the 2012–13 season, he scored twice in Málaga’s Champions League debut against Zenit and was named Man of the Match. His exceptional play earned him the Golden Boy award in December 2012, highlighting him as one of Europe’s best young talents. He subsequently signed a new contract with Málaga in January 2013, with a buyout clause of €35 million.
Isco joined Real Madrid in June 2013 for €30 million, making him manager Carlo Ancelotti’s first signing. Over nine seasons, he made 353 appearances, scored 53 goals, and was instrumental in winning 19 trophies, including five UEFA Champions League titles, three LaLiga titles, and four FIFA Club World Cups. He debuted for Real Madrid on August 18, 2013, scoring the winning goal against Real Betis. His time at Real Madrid saw him consistently contributing to the team’s success, often stepping up in crucial matches, such as being named man of the match in the 2017 UEFA Super Cup. After leaving Real Madrid, Isco played for Sevilla FC briefly in 2022 and then joined Real Betis in July 2023, where he later extended his contract until June 2027.
