Born on September 30, 1986, in Chambéry, France, Olivier Giroud began his football career in his hometown with Froges before joining Grenoble’s youth academy at 13. He signed his first professional contract with Grenoble at the age of 21 and gained early experience on loan at Istres in 2007–08. His career progressed significantly after joining Tours in 2008, where he became the Ligue 2 top goalscorer in the 2009–10 season and was named the UNFP Ligue 2 Player of the Year. This performance led to a €2 million transfer to Montpellier in 2010. During his time with Montpellier, Giroud played a pivotal role in the club winning its first Ligue 1 title in the 2011–12 season, where he also finished as the league’s top goalscorer.
Giroud’s career continued to ascend with a move to Arsenal in 2012 for approximately £9.6 million. At Arsenal, he won three FA Cups, ending the club’s nine-year trophy drought, and became the club’s eighteenth-highest all-time goalscorer. In 2018, he transferred to Chelsea, adding to his trophy cabinet with another FA Cup, the UEFA Champions League, and the UEFA Europa League, where he was the top goalscorer in 2019. He then moved to AC Milan in 2021, helping them secure the 2021–22 Serie A title, ending another long league drought for the club. After a one-year stint with Los Angeles FC in Major League Soccer, winning the U.S. Open Cup in 2024, Giroud returned to France, signing with Lille in 2025 where he quickly broke the record for oldest goalscorer for the club in his debut appearance.
Internationally, Giroud debuted for the France national team in 2011 at age 25. He earned 137 caps and became the all-time top goalscorer for France with 57 goals. His international achievements include finishing as runner-up in UEFA Euro 2016, winning the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and finishing as runner-up in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he received the Bronze Boot. He also won the 2021 UEFA Nations League. Off the field, Giroud has engaged in various partnerships, including being the face of Hugo Boss’s Boss Bottled fragrance and a long-standing sponsorship with Puma, showcasing his appeal beyond football.
