Widely considered the ultimate reference for rising perfumers, Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud is a French perfumer who works for Louis Vuitton. He has created more than 80 perfumes and fragrances for the world’s biggest fashion house brands, including Fenty Beauty, Issey Miyake, Parfums Christian Dior, Lancôme, Yves Saint Laurent and Givency. His greatest successes include Cinéma and Rive Gauche Pour Homme for Yves Saint Laurent, Nina for Nina Ricci, Midnight Poison for Christian Dior, Giorgio Armani’s Acqua di Gio Pour Homme, Amor Pour Homme Tentation for Cacharel (with Olivier Cresp), and Givenchy’s Hot Couture, Carolina Herrera’s Chic and Calvin Klein’s Truth as collaborations with the legendary perfumer Alberto Morillas.
Born into a family of perfumers, Cavallier-Belletrud was raised in the French town of Grasse – a location famous for centuries for manufacturing perfumes. He followed into his father and grandfather’s footsteps to become a perfumer himself, and began his professional career at the fragrance manufacturer Charabot. After a stint working at Quest International in the Netherlands he joined PFW Aroma Chemicals B.V. before fragrance giants Firmenich spotted his immense talent and offered him a position alongside Morillas. Before long he was creating fragrance masterpieces that then went on to become bestsellers, using novelties to characterize his perfumes such as the fresh, maritime note synthetic fragrance Calone 1951. Since joining Louis Vuitton as in-house perfumer he has created over 30 perfumes for the designer brand alone.
