He transitioned from selling t-shirts at the Delta Fair to becoming a professional MMA fighter, competing in the welterweight division. His early career saw him fighting in regional promotions like V3 Fights and Summit FC, where he quickly built a reputation with several TKO victories and unanimous decision wins. Willis demonstrated his potential early on, securing a V3 Lightweight Championship and consistently performing across different weight classes.

Willis made his mark in larger organizations, including World Series of Fighting (WSOF), Legacy Fighting Alliance (LFA), and Bellator MMA. He debuted in WSOF in 2016, earning a unanimous decision victory. His tenure with LFA included a notable main event fight in LFA 88 in 2020, where he won the vacant welterweight championship by unanimous decision against Vinicius de Jesus.
