American pro skateboarder Janthavy Norton’s talents have not only seen her win sponsorship deals with some of skating’s most desirable brands, but also appear in major music videos and TV series. In early 2021, she was one of the skateboarding stars of the video for Sia and David Guetta’s ‘Floating Through Space’, a clip that amassed over 9 million views on YouTube within one month of being uploaded. In 2020, she also appeared in an episode of NCIS: New Orleans and the video for ‘Sickness’ by Grey Daze, a project that consists of unreleased vocals by late Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington’s placed over newly-recorded music. The video quickly received over 1 million hits.
It’s a great career start for Norton, who has always worked hard and skated hard. Born and raised in Arizona by her Vietnamese father and Cambodian mother, she fell in love with skating and was soon immersed in skate parks and skate culture. She has quickly used her new-found status to give back: She has already helped to launch an empowering, non-profit skating organisation called Skate Rising and also runs regular Girls Progressive Skate Sessions in Phoenix. When she’s not doing any of that, or practising her skating, she finds time to hold down a full-time job as manager of a condo complex in Phoenix.
Norton has also built a substantial social media following, with 58,000 followers on Instagram alone. She is also sponsored by and/or associated with brands such as Dead Canary, Nikita, The Straye, Witch Grip Tape, and Powerflex Wheels.
