Jasmine Tookes was born on February 1, 1991, in Huntington Beach, California. Her early life involved ten years of gymnastics, as well as participation in volleyball and softball, prior to her entry into modeling at the age of 15. Her discovery occurred during a showroom appointment involving her mother, a celebrity fashion stylist. Tookes’ career began with commercial campaigns for UGG Australia and Gap in 2010. She gained international recognition with a Spring 2011 DKNY campaign and an editorial spread in Vogue Italia.
In September 2011, Models.com recognized Tookes as one of the top 10 new models. Style magazine also named her its top new model in November 2011 due to her performance in Spring Fashion Shows. A significant milestone in her career was being among the eleven new models chosen for the 2012 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. She would continue to work with Victoria’s Secret, eventually becoming an Angel in 2015. In 2016, Tookes was selected to wear the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Fantasy Bra, valued at $3 million, making her the third black model to achieve this distinction. That same year, she debuted at No. 17 on Forbes’ “The World’s Highest Paid Models” list, with estimated earnings of $4 million.
Tookes has appeared in numerous editorials for international editions of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Numéro, W, and V. Her runway experience includes major fashion houses such as Burberry, Salvatore Ferragamo, Carolina Herrera, and Balmain, among others. Beyond modeling, Tookes has expanded into entrepreneurship. She co-founded JOJA, an activewear company, with fellow VS Angel Josephine Skriver. On May 15, 2025, she launched her beauty brand, Brunel, which focuses on body care products. In October 2025, while pregnant with her second child, Tookes opened the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, making her the first pregnant woman and the second Black model to do so.
