Jasmine Masters

Martell Robinson, known professionally as Jasmine Masters, was born on October 16, 1976, in San Diego County, California. Her journey into drag began at the age of 21 in 1997, where she first performed by impersonating Patti LaBelle. Masters quickly developed a distinctive stage persona, adopting “Jasmine Masters” from Jasmine Guy and her drag mother, Destiny Masters. Early in her career, prior to gaining widespread drag race recognition, she appeared as the character Mordecai in the 2008 film “First Sunday” and was featured alongside fellow drag performer Willam in an episode of “The New Normal” in 2013, demonstrating her early engagement in acting roles.

Masters gained national prominence as a contestant on the seventh season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” in 2015, where she placed 12th. Her appearance on the show was notable, and despite facing online negativity, she garnered a dedicated fanbase. She later returned to the “Drag Race” franchise for “RuPaul’s Drag Race Holi-slay Spectacular” in 2018 and the fourth season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars,” placing 10th. Her post-“Drag Race” career saw a significant boom in her online presence. She became a prolific content creator on YouTube, where her videos, often characterized by her direct and humorous commentary, achieved viral status. One of her most iconic moments, the “And I Oop!” clip from a 2015 YouTube video, became the most used GIF of 2019, with over 419 million views, and she later trademarked the phrase.

Beyond her “Drag Race” and viral video success, Jasmine Masters has continued to expand her career. She hosts her own web show, “Jasmine Masters’ Class,” produced by WowPresents, which premiered in 2018. Additionally, she has been a guest on various web series, including “Lemme Pick You Up” with Ts Madison and “Wait, What?” with Kimora Blac. Her musical collaborations include featuring on RuPaul’s “Freaky Money” in 2015 and Adam Joseph’s single “And I Oop!” in 2019. Since June 2023, Masters has hosted “Jush Sundays,” a weekly brunch and evening drag show in Oakland, California, featuring other drag performers. Her consistent presence as a performer, content creator, and internet personality highlights her enduring impact on popular culture.
