Jay Mohr

Jon Ferguson “Jay” Mohr was born on August 23, 1970, in Verona, New Jersey. He developed an early interest in comedy and began performing stand-up at the age of sixteen. His career gained national recognition as a cast member on “Saturday Night Live” from 1993 to 1995, where he was known for his impressions. Prior to SNL, Mohr hosted the MTV lip-sync game show “Lip Service,” which earned him a CableACE Award. This early exposure on television established his presence in the entertainment industry.

Following his tenure on “Saturday Night Live,” Mohr transitioned into film, appearing in notable productions such as “Jerry Maguire” (1996) as Bob Sugar and “Picture Perfect” (1997) alongside Jennifer Aniston. He continued to build a diverse filmography with roles in “Small Soldiers” (1998), “Go” (1999), “Pay It Forward” (2000), “Simone” (2002), and “Even Money” (2006). On television, he starred as Peter Dragon in the series “Action” (1999), Professor Rick Payne in “Ghost Whisperer” (2006-2008), and the title role in the CBS sitcom “Gary Unmarried” (2008-2010).

Mohr’s career also expanded into radio and podcasting. He hosted “Mohr Sports” on Fox Sports Radio and his own podcast, “Mohr Stories.” He was the inaugural host and executive producer of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” from 2003 to 2006, receiving a Primetime Emmy nomination for his work. Additionally, he authored two books: “Gasping for Airtime: Two Years in the Trenches of Saturday Night Live” (2004) and “No Wonder My Parents Drank: Tales from a Stand-Up Dad” (2010). His album “Happy. And A Lot.” was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album in 2015, showcasing his continued contributions to comedy.
