About

JD Clayton, originally from Fort Smith, Arkansas, has established himself in the country-rock genre. After several years in Nashville, he returned to his hometown, where he produced his album *Blue Sky Sundays*. This project, a follow-up to his 2023 debut *Long Way From Home*, features his touring band and was recorded at Sound Emporium Studios in Nashville, then mixed by seven-time Grammy Award winner Vance Powell. Clayton’s live experience includes performances at festivals such as Bonnaroo and Dreamy Draw, and opening for artists like Dwight Yoakam, Old Crow Medicine Show, Parker McCollum, Hank Williams Jr., Charles Wesley Godwin, Brent Cobb, and Ashley McBryde.

Clayton’s musical journey began in childhood, learning guitar from his grandfather and later mastering piano, drums, banjo, harmonica, and ukulele. He performed in church services during his high school years and formed his first band while attending the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. Following graduation, he moved to Nashville with his wife. During the pandemic, he worked for a landscaping company while writing his debut album. His 2018 debut EP, *Smoke Out the Fire*, marked an early career milestone. *Blue Sky Sundays* demonstrates a shift towards roots-rock influences, including a cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Give Me One Reason” and a reinterpretation of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Mississippi Kid” as “Arkansas Kid.” The album also features songs like “High Hopes & Low Expectations” (co-written with Kendell Marvel) and “Dance Another Dance.”

Returning to Fort Smith after the birth of his first daughter influenced the themes of *Blue Sky Sundays*, particularly the song “Slow & Steady,” which inspired the album’s title and reflects Clayton’s desire to bring happiness through his music. He aims for his albums to offer comfort and nostalgia, similar to how certain music has impacted him. In 2024, JD Clayton signed with Rounder Records, further solidifying his position in the music industry. He is managed by Red Light Management and booked by William Morris Endeavor (WME).
