Celebrated for leading the eighth-seeded New York Knicks to a historic 1999 NBA Finals appearance, Jeff Van Gundy has built a distinguished career spanning decades as a prominent coach, acclaimed broadcaster, and strategic basketball executive. Van Gundy first joined the New York Knicks as an assistant coach in 1989, contributing to the team’s success over six and a half seasons, which included three Atlantic Division titles and a trip to the 1994 NBA Finals. He was promoted to head coach of the Knicks in March 1996, leading the team through 2001, a tenure highlighted by their remarkable 1999 playoff run. Following his time with the Knicks, Van Gundy went on to serve as head coach for the Houston Rockets from 2003 to 2007, where he guided the team to multiple playoff appearances.
Building on his instrumental role in the Celtics’ championship, Van Gundy assumed the position of lead assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers in June 2024.
