He progressed through the ranks, contributing to the team that won the 2010–11 FA Youth Cup and securing professional contracts. Lingard earned back-to-back championships with the reserves/under 21s in 2011–12 and 2012–13, also winning the Manchester Senior Cup and Lancashire Senior Cup. He made his senior debut while on loan at Leicester City in 2012, marking the beginning of a professional career that would span several clubs and international appearances.
Lingard spent time on loan at Birmingham City and Brighton & Hove Albion during the 2013–14 season, followed by a spell at Derby County in 2015. He gained prominence in Manchester United’s first team under Louis van Gaal in 2015, where he became a regular player until 2019. His ability to score in multiple finals, including the FA Cup, EFL Cup, and FA Community Shield, set him apart.
A particularly impactful period of his career was his loan spell with West Ham United in 2021, where he experienced a resurgence, scoring nine goals in 16 appearances and earning the Premier League Player of the Month and Premier League Goal of the Month awards in April 2021. After leaving Manchester United in 2022, he played for Nottingham Forest for a season before joining FC Seoul in South Korea in 2024, where he was named captain for the 2025 season. Lingard has also represented England at various levels, including the under-17 and under-21 teams, and made his senior international debut in 2016, participating in the 2018 FIFA World Cup where England finished fourth.
