About

Jessie T. Usher Jr. was born on February 29, 1992, in Silver Spring, Maryland. His interest in acting began at an early age, inspired by his sister’s television commercial work. In 2003, his family moved to Los Angeles to support his burgeoning career. Academically, Usher excelled, consistently achieving top honors from elementary school through college. He graduated high school as the class salutatorian and later made the Dean’s List in college, where he studied culinary arts and became a member of the Alpha Gamma Sigma Honor Society.

Usher’s acting career commenced with guest roles in various television series, including “Without a Trace” (2005), “Hannah Montana” (2007), “Numbers” (2008), “The Mentalist” (2009), “Criminal Minds” (2009), and “Lincoln Heights” (2008). His breakthrough arrived in 2011 with the lead role of Lyle Hugginson in Cartoon Network’s television movie “Level Up,” a role he reprised for two seasons in the subsequent TV series. In 2014, he secured a main role as Cam Calloway in “Survivor’s Remorse,” an NBA-themed comedy-drama executive produced by LeBron James, which ran until 2017. He also appeared in the film “When the Game Stands Tall” (2014).

A significant turning point came in 2016 when Usher was cast in “Independence Day: Resurgence” as Dylan Hiller, a lead role in the major sci-fi blockbuster. The same year, he co-starred in the comedy-drama “Almost Christmas.” In 2019, Usher took on the lead role of John ‘JJ’ Shaft Jr. in the “Shaft” sequel, alongside Samuel L. Jackson and Richard Roundtree. Since 2019, he has gained widespread recognition for his role as Reggie Franklin / A-Train in the Amazon Studios series “The Boys,” a character he also voiced in the video game “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III” (2023) and appeared as in the spin-off series “Gen V” (2023). His recent film credits include “Dangerous Lies” (2020), “The Banker” (2020), and the psychological horror film “Smile” (2022). He is also set to appear in the upcoming TV series “Pulse” (2025).
