The fabulous creative Steven Zaillian is an award-winning screenwriter, director, and producer. He is best known for his Oscar-winning screenplay for Steven Spielberg’s Schindler’s List, as well as for the movies Awakenings, Gangs of New York, and Moneyball. He also created, wrote, and directed HBO’s The Night Of.
Born and raised in California, Zaillian initially attended the Sonoma State University, and later went to San Francisco State University, from which he graduated from with a degree in Cinema. His first screenplay was for the 1985 spy drama The Falcon and the Snowman, and he went on to pen such classics as Awakenings, Schindler’s List, Mission: Impossible, American Gangster, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. He made his directorial debut in 1993 with the drama Searching for Bobby Fischer, for which he also wrote the screenplay.
Zaillian has been nominated for and won numerous awards throughout his illustrious career, including an Oscar, a BAFTA, and a Golden Globe for Schindler’s List. His 2017 HBO crime drama mini series The Night Of won the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directing – Miniseries or TV Film.
