About

Jesús Navas González, born on November 21, 1985, in Los Palacios y Villafranca, Spain, embarked on his professional football journey by joining Sevilla’s youth system at the age of 15. His first-team and La Liga debut came in November 2003, days after his 18th birthday. Navas quickly established himself as a vital player for Sevilla, contributing significantly to their success, including winning back-to-back UEFA Cups in 2006 and 2007, and two Copas del Rey in 2007 and 2010. During his initial spell at Sevilla, Navas demonstrated consistent performance, leading the team in assists and earning a reputation for his pace and attacking prowess from the right wing. Despite early struggles with chronic homesickness and anxiety, factors that initially limited his ability to travel and accept national team call-ups, he persevered, making his international debut for Spain in 2009 after overcoming these personal challenges.

In 2013, Navas made a significant career move to Manchester City in the Premier League. His four years in England saw him continue his success, winning the Premier League title in 2014 and two Football League Cups in 2014 and 2016. A notable turning point in his career came during his time at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola, where he transitioned from a traditional winger to a right-back, a role he continued to excel in. Following his tenure in England, Navas returned to his beloved Sevilla in 2017, where he further cemented his legendary status. He continued to collect silverware, adding two more UEFA Europa League titles in 2020 and 2023, bringing his total to four with the club. His leadership was recognized when he was named captain ahead of the 2018–19 season, and the club further honored him by renaming their training ground’s main stadium to Estadio Jesús Navas.

Navas’s international career is equally distinguished. He was a crucial member of the Spanish national team that won the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the UEFA Euro 2012, showcasing his ability to perform on the biggest stages. His career saw a remarkable resurgence in his later years, returning to the national squad for the UEFA Nations League in 2023 at the age of 37, making him the oldest player to feature for the Spain national team. He then became the first player in history to win a World Cup, a European Championship, and a Nations League title when Spain claimed the 2022–23 UEFA Nations League. His international career culminated in winning UEFA Euro 2024, after which he announced his retirement from international football, leaving a legacy of numerous individual and team accolades.
