Jim Mcelwain

Jim McElwain is an Football coach who has led multiple college programs and served as an offensive coordinator in the NCAA and NFL. After leading the Eastern Washington University offense to a Big Sky championship in 1992 as quarterbacks and receivers coach, Jim McElwain went on to establish himself as a highly successful football coach at both collegiate and professional levels. McElwain’s strategic acumen was further evident as offensive coordinator at Montana State from 1995 to 1999, where his offense notably led the Big Sky Conference in scoring in 1998. Transitioning to Division I-A football, McElwain joined the University of Louisville as the receivers and special teams coach from 2000 to 2002, setting a school record with nine blocked kicks during the 2000–2001 season.

In his inaugural 2019 season, he led the team to an 8–4 record, earning him the Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year award. His tenure at Central Michigan included further successes, highlighted by a Sun Bowl victory in 2021. At the conclusion of the 2024 season, McElwain transitioned from coaching to join Central Michigan’s athletics department as a special assistant to the athletic director.
