John Bishop

John Bishop, a prominent figure in British comedy and entertainment, delivers engaging performances across stand-up, television, and film, offering unique perspectives to diverse audiences. After beginning his stand-up comedy career in 2000, John Bishop quickly established himself, reaching the finals of major new act competitions including ‘So You Think You’re Funny,’ the Daily Telegraph Open Mic Awards, and the BBC New Comedy Awards in 2001. That same year, he won the prestigious City Life North West Comedian of the Year Award, followed by recognition as Best Newcomer by BBC Radio Merseyside in 2002 and the North West Comedy Award for Best Stand-Up in 2004. Bishop made his television debut as a regular panelist on RTÉ’s topical-comedy show, ‘The Panel,’ from 2007 to 2008, setting the stage for his expansive career in media.

Bishop rapidly expanded his presence, developing and hosting his own successful television shows, including ‘John Bishop’s Britain’ (2010–2011), ‘John Bishop’s Only Joking’ (2013), and ‘John Bishop: in Conversation With…’ (2016–2018). Demonstrating his versatility, he garnered critical acclaim for dramatic acting roles in Ken Loach’s film Route Irish (2010) and Jimmy McGovern’s Accused (2010). A committed philanthropist, Bishop notably raised £4.2 million for Sport Relief in 2012 by completing a challenging triathlon. His national arena tours, such as ‘Winging It,’ achieved immense popularity, selling over 500,000 tickets across the UK and Ireland.

Most recently, in 2022, he starred as Vic in the festive pantomime ‘Mother Goose,’ underscoring his diverse entertainment repertoire across live performance, television, and film.
