John Corbett

John Joseph Corbett Jr. was born on May 9, 1961, in Wheeling, West Virginia. He was raised Catholic, serving as an altar boy for seven years. After graduating from Wheeling Central Catholic High School in 1979, he moved to Bellflower, California, and worked at a boiler-making factory for six years. A back injury led him to enroll in hairdressing classes at Cerritos College, where he also began studying acting at night. His acting career started with a guest role in “The Wonder Years” (1988), credited as Jack Corbett, before he landed his breakthrough role.

From 1990 to 1995, Corbett garnered significant recognition playing Chris Stevens in the CBS comedy-drama series “Northern Exposure,” earning Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award nominations. He received another Golden Globe nomination for his role as Aidan Shaw in “Sex and the City” (2000-2003) and later reprised the role in “Sex and the City 2” (2010), and “And Just Like That…” (2023-2025). A notable film milestone was his starring role as Ian Miller in the romantic comedy “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” (2002) and its sequels (2016, 2023), for which he received a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination. Beyond acting, Corbett has also pursued a career in country music, releasing two studio albums, “John Corbett” (2006) and “Leaving Nothin’ Behind” (2013). His debut album reached number 45 on the Billboard Country Albums chart.

Throughout his career, Corbett has demonstrated versatility across various genres, including drama, comedy, and horror. His work extends to diverse projects such as “The Visitor” (1997-1998), “United States of Tara” (2009-2011), “Parenthood” (2011-2015), and the “To All the Boys” film trilogy (2018-2021).
