John Glover is an American actor and voice actor best known for his many famous villainous roles such as Lionel Luthor in Smallville and Daniel Clamp in Gremlins 2. He has been nominated for an incredible five Primetime Emmys, all for different series, and was also nominated for three Saturn Awards for his work in Smallville. He is also a voice actor and narrator of note, having voiced characters in shows such as Tron: Uprising, narrated series such as Haunted House, and narrated audiobooks by literary giants such as Stephen King and Clive Barker. His more recent roles have included playing the recurring role of Teddy Maddox in the sixth season of Fear the Walking Dead and its spin-off, Dead in the Water.
Glover was born in New York in 1944. He made his film debut in 1973, and in the last 50 years, he has appeared in more than 130 shows and films. He got his first major break in 1983, playing Billy Vargas in more than 230 episodes of Search for Tomorrow, a soap opera that had been running since the 1950s. Glover’s character kidnapped the show’s heroine, Jo, helping him to build a reputation as a great bad-guy actor.
Glover was first nominated for a Primetime Emmy in 1986, for his supporting role in An Early Frost. He has since been nominated for another four for shows as diverse as Crime and Punishment and Frasier. Now in his seventies, he is as active and as popular as ever.
