Jodhi May

Jodhi May is an English actress, director, and writer known for her versatile performances across film, television, and theatre since her childhood debut. After receiving the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress for her inaugural screen role in A World Apart (1988), Jodhi May became the youngest recipient of the prestigious award and went on to earn the Evening Standard British Film Award for Most Promising Newcomer for the same acclaimed performance. May continued to build a diverse filmography, portraying Alice Munro in Michael Mann’s critically acclaimed The Last of the Mohicans (1992) and Lea Papin in Sister My Sister (1994), for which she was honored with the Valladolid International Film Festival Award for Best Actress. Her career continued to expand with significant roles such as Anna Snitkina in The Gambler (1997), earning her the Silver Dolphin Award for Best Actress.

On television, May starred as Lady Sarah Lennox in the miniseries Aristocrats (1999) and as Florence Banner in Tipping the Velvet (2002). In 2003, she took on the role of Anne Boleyn in the television adaptation of The Other Boleyn Girl, further showcasing her versatility across historical dramas. More recently, May has gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Queen Calanthe in Netflix’s hit series The Witcher, appearing from 2019 to 2023. During this period, she also took on significant roles as Vere Cameron/Vere Hobart in HBO’s Gentleman Jack (2019–2022) and Selma James in Steve McQueen’s anthology series Small Axe (2020).

May’s upcoming directorial work includes the project Mooring, continuing her active engagement across various facets of production in the entertainment industry.
