Born on July 19, 1970, in New York City and raised in South Lyon, Michigan, John Heffron began his comedy career while studying at Eastern Michigan University. He would often skip night classes to perform stand-up, securing his first emcee role at the Main Street Comedy Showcase on the University of Michigan campus. After graduating with degrees in communications and psychology, Heffron immediately pursued comedy, touring the college circuit and performing over 80 shows annually. His material, which often reflected on his college days and popular culture, resonated with young audiences and led to his first comedy CD, “Kid With A Cape.”
By age 25, Heffron was a successful headlining comedian. He expanded his career by working as a radio sidekick to Danny Bonaduce on Detroit’s Q95-5 morning show for five years. Upon moving to Los Angeles, Heffron made various television appearances, including NBC’s “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and CBS’s “The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn.” His career further ascended when he won the second season of NBC’s reality series “Last Comic Standing” in 2004, earning a talent contract with the network. He has also performed at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festivals in Montreal and Bermuda, and the HBO Comedy Festival in Aspen.
Beyond stand-up, Heffron has demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit. With partner Joel Zimmer, he co-created “The That Guy! Game,” a card game that gained celebrity attention and was featured in Entrepreneur magazine’s “Hot 100” issue in 2001. Heffron developed a television pilot based on this concept. His work also includes two half-hour “Comedy Central Presents” specials and the release of his DVD, “Middle Class Funny,” in 2009. He has appeared on VH1 series like “My Coolest Years: My First Time” and “I Love The 80s,” and toured with comedians Charlie Murphy and Joe Rogan on the “Real Men of Comedy” tour in 2006, sponsored by Maxim and Bud Light. John Heffron continues to tour and perform stand-up across the United States. He married Michelle Nogoy in November 2021.
