Giancarlo Esposito established himself as a prominent character actor with his portrayal of Agent Mike Giardello in the TV series ‘Homicide: Life on the Street’ in 1998. This followed a distinguished stage career, making his Broadway debut in ‘Maggie Flynn’ in 1966, and transitioning to significant film and television roles throughout the 1980s. During this period, he notably collaborated with director Spike Lee on multiple acclaimed films including ‘School Daze’ (1988), ‘Do the Right Thing’ (1989), ‘Mo’ Better Blues’ (1990), and ‘Malcolm X’ (1992). His early filmography also includes the critically successful ‘The Usual Suspects’ (1995).
Esposito gained widespread recognition for his iconic role as Gus Fring in the AMC crime drama series ‘Breaking Bad’ (20092011), a character he reprised in the prequel series ‘Better Call Saul’ (20172022). This critically acclaimed performance earned him two Critics’ Choice Television Awards and multiple Primetime Emmy Award nominations. Expanding his versatile film work, he also appeared in the live-action adaptation of ‘The Jungle Book’ in 2016.
